WELCOME message - Art portfolio two

And the last term has begun,

I am going to introduce Art Portfolio two by saying that, once again I am excited about this module! This module has been a challenge but at the same time, my favorite one in terms of working on my subject and being creative. In addition, this module has been allowing us the opportunity to explore other areas and mix our progression route with others.

During the break, I have tried to do an exercise with myself. This means I have been trying to get out of my comfort zone in terms of style. Trying to use my pieces of clothes differently and also start adding accessories and different hair styles. I have always been a supporter of simplicity but during this year I have been noticing that there are times where we need to change, explore different things and get out of our comfort zone.

Talking about different areas, I have been looking at a photographer's work, specially on Instagram. His name is Chris Burkard and beyond being a photographer, he is an explorer, creative director, speaker and author. Burkard works with nature and is what most characterises him.

Chris Burkard, Burkard Studio

"I find inspiration in a lot of different places. I feel equally inspired by art, music and even architecture. I find inspiration in nature. Heading out and spending days off the grid and away from civilisation is where I feel most relaxed and can really see things in a different light." (Chris Burkard, 2019)

Looking at his work, we can clearly notice that he is passionate about nature. His passion started with his love for surf and we can see that in his publications.

Photograph what you love, Chris Burkark

Chris is lucky to work with what he loves. He has been travelling the world during his career, mostly northeast countries, where its cold. It is amazing the way he photographs what he sees and sometimes he puts his life at risk for a photo. His goal is to inspire others and he is definitely getting there, in my point of view, it is easy to look at his work and wanting to start photograph or take a photography course.
From what I have known about him, he also have a film, books and also a merch that is on his website.

I found Burkard's work very interesting because he is able to work in various areas and do each one in the best way. Although this is not directly related to my subject area, I know that I will be doing a lot of photography during my course. Looking at Burkard's work, I can see that editing is very importing when we are talking about photography. We can say that nowadays, editing is the key to become a recognized and successful photographer.

  1. An artist or maker doesn't have to be in your subject area for him/her to be an inspiration. You might take how he presents his work as an inspiration, for instance. It's really important to stay up to date with what your industry is doing, but just as important to be aware of trends in other areas, that way your source material will be wider and your work will become more unique.
