Research - Purple makeup

MAKEUP

I have been researching artists for this project such as fashion designers, photographers or stylists. I wanted to add to my research something that I have never talk about and it is also something that I found important in my subject area which is Fashion Communication and Styling. I am talking about makeup, it is something that has always been and always will be in the fashion world. It is present is fashion editorials, magazines, photoshoots, runaways and also, it can be makeup the element that stands out in a fashion show and it can make the difference. Makeup artists have a huge impact in fashion and in relation to my theme, purple makeup is a big trend right now and that is why I found important to talk about this.

Vogue (April 2004)

"Ultra Violet" was named Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year. And this color continues on trends of makeup and fashion. Purple has stood out in eye shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks and even illuminators. Makeup artists use this color in many ways and applied various techniques onto it. I will go further the makeup techniques later. It is also proved that purple is one of the prettiest colors to wear on the face

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick (2018)

The makeup artist Rowan Blanchard was the one that cast the purple into the fashion makeup after using a purple shade at the "A wrinkle in time". Since then, the makeup trend starts to being used in runaways and red carpets.

Every time I think in this color it reminds me of "Purple Rain" by Prince and I think every fan of him has purple in their hearts. Also, this theme already named makeup products that were purple. This artist or this song could be an inspiration for this project because his history and career is also inspiring.

Here are some tricks to use purple in makeup:

Eyeliner

It is interesting to start with eyeliner if we want to start using colors like purple. We can choose by starting with drawing a line across the upper lid and let the purple shine without any other shade. Maybe a bit of mascara and we end up with a simple and different look. If we are brave, we can choose to explore the eyeliner and do other styles using the pen. The fact that we do not use not only basic colors or nudes give us more personality.

Eye Shadow

To use purple eye shadow, an interesting trick is to not mix this shadow color with any other color to give a more young aspect to our eyes. The color of our eyes is also important, there are some colors that can stand us better due to our eye color and purple stand better in those who have blue or green eyes because green and purple are  complementary colors. For other types of eyes, it is interesting to explore the different types of purple to see which one is the best.

Lipstick

Using purple on lips can be a huge challenge because it will definitely make a statement. When we are talking about the color of the lipstick, the most important aspect is to have in consideration the skin tone of the person. Before using the lipstick it is important to apply a lip primer to create a smooth canvas.

Fair skin: cool-toned purple

Medium skin:  warmer purple

Dark skin: deep matte hue

This research was very useful. I was able to get to know better the makeup world since it is very important in my subject area. Also, it was important to me to research on makeup artists and their techniques in makeup.
